I truly enjoyed my time with this game. It's really solidly written, though I'd imagine for someone not as interested or experienced with 40k it'd probably be a bit harder to get in to, but even then they provide enough information that I don't think that should be a major problem. I'd say it's probably about a 7 or 8 out of ten.

However,

The technical quality of this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ abysmal. It is infested with bugs in a way that was never truly game ruining for me (though I did have to manually complete the occasional quest step utilizing mods as it would sometimes just not progress and you'd be stuck), but rather it just truly made the moment to moment experience of playing it really frustrating. I really enjoyed the game's story and character, they weren't perfectly written at all times but it was clear the writers had a lot of respect and care for the setting they were working in, and they did a really good job. Despite that I can't recommend it as this game feels like it needs so much more extra work on the technical side of things that I highly doubt it'll ever get

If you like 40k, AND are willing to put up with a game so rough around the edges that it should never have been released like this, get it on sale. Otherwise, stay away and do not bother. It's a real shame that is the case though, because this really could have been something really really great. All the pieces are there, good story, solid characters, an interesting combat system that is stupidly easy to break in half (turns out extra turns are really good), but the technical side is just so so so bad that it ruins it. What a waste of potential.

This is such a mixed bag. The game is beautiful. Playing this is like reading a custom adventure book. SO MUCH READING. Which I enjoy, but sometimes it'd be nice to just play. My real gripe with this game is just the optimization. Poor poor optimization. Two loading screens for everything. Weird bugs with enemies that break combat, flood your ears with endless marching, or watching the frames slowly stop as the fight drags ever slowly onward. Persistent bugs with naval combat causing your ship to move unexpectedly while in combat making your intended target out of range unable to be hit. Combat abilities that teleport a single character to the other end of the map while the rest of the party roughs it alone. Multiplayer campaigns I have hosted can no longer be accessed because, "You do not own the DLC required for this save." Which is crazy and infuriating when you own everything including the season pass, for DLC which seemingly isn't coming because collectors editions are clearly more important. It's a real ♥♥♥♥♥. I want to love this game. I have so much fun despite the complete ♥♥♥♥ show of a game it is. Maybe my problem is I am playing with friends I don't know. What I do know is if you want a completed game like this with dev support and real bug fixes go to Larian. This feels so much like BG3 if it were a toothless crack ♥♥♥♥♥ disguised as She Who Thirsts. Here's hoping I can con my friends to play through to the end with me.

Maybe give it a shot for it's 5th year anniversary, they'll have all the streamlining and bugs worked out by then. But if you're familiar with Owlcat's previous titles, this shouldn't be a surprise.
