こんにちは! The game now has Japanese localization! Hopefully this brings the game to an even bigger audience :D


With this update, new countries will start with Random Flags instead of blank ones. You can also create random flags in the editor.

Test them out and let me know what you think! In future updates I plan on adding more different symbols and such to the generator pool.

Flags now also appear in Statistics!


For those of you who think the current speed at which the date in the bottom advances is too fast, you can now change it by going to settings and changing Time Scale to Days.

This makes it so that on normal speed 7 days pass every 1 second, instead of the default where 1 second equates to 2 months.

These two time scales are completely separate so changing it in the middle of the simulation isn't really wise. But test out which feels better. You can of course just ignore the date if you want :)


In a previous update a way to add custom random names was added in the form of a "RandomNameSettings.json" file. Now, you can also add additional alliance name options by creating a list with the key "allianceNames".

Alliance names can be regular text names, but if you want the name to include a nation or city name in it once generated, you can include a {0} symbol in the name, which will then be replaced. As always make sure to follow basic-json syntax rules. And if for some reason the file isn't working, you can delete/move it and the game will generate a new one at startup

The Flag Editor also provides loads to those interested in drawing flags for their fictional fantasy nations! The workshop also has loads of great Flag Packs for easy use. Just before writing this I found someone who had created all the country flags as county balls!

Hey everyone!

Some of the maps in the game have remained the same since the initial release so it was about time they got updated! Before getting into those though, please check this next section!


I'm always trying to improve the game's performance, but it is usually difficult to notice changes in it without many testers. So in this update I've added a new Experimental Setting, which can only be turned on in the Main Menu (as it effects map generation).

It would help very much if you guys could spend some time checking if enabling it has any noticeable effect on performance, especially on larger maps on high speeds. So turn it on, run a simulation for a bit while checking the FPS and any lag spikes, then turn if off and do it again. If you notice anything, post about it on the Steam forums or Discord! Thank you!


Five maps have been completely remade, many of them much larger and featuring terrain for the first time!


You can now turn on autosave, which saves your progress every two minutes, just in case you forget!

Flag painter has also been improved. Keybinds have also been added to some buttons and will continue to be added.

This update makes creating, using and sharing flags much easier than before!


The previous default flags have been converted to a Flag Pack, and a new menu has been added to make flag packs easy to create and share!

Simply create a new pack, add your flags to it and save. You can then easily use them again in your other scenarios! You can later edit them by adding or removing individual flags from them. Default packs and Workshop packs can't be edited, but they can be used as bases or references for your custom flags.

You can share your packs on the workshop from the flag editor panel. Create a new item or update an old one. As usual, don't steal other people's work!


Cities which are close to revolting, will now be highlighted on the map with a red tinted city and some smoke!


Do you sometimes want to keep specific counties extra powerful or weak, without changing everyone's Combat Efficiency Setting to Static? Well now you can! Simply lock their efficiency in place by clicking the icon!

Creating many flags from scratch for large scenarios can take a while. The in game editor is good enough for it, but some might have a preference for other software, like Photoshop, Aseprite, Paint or Gimp.



Let's say you have a scenario without any flags. In the image above I have only painted one for Denmark in game. When the game saves a scenario or save, it will only create the flags image file for nations with painted flags, so in this case it would only have Denmark.

We want the game to create flags for all nations (even if we later decide to leave some without flags)

1. Press the Fill All Flags -button. It will populate every nation's flag with a random color.
(as of v4.0.1 the flag counter will show 1 extra flag over the max, but you can ignore that)

2. Save the scenario

3. Go to the file location where the scenario is saved.
The exact path for your scenario files can be found in the main menu scenario list info button. But for example for windows it will be inside your user folder, then AppData\LocalLow\JoySparkGames\Ages of Conflict\

4. Once you locate the correct scenario folder and open it, you should find the scenario file itself, the flags.png file, and a flagNames.txt file.


You will need to edit the flags.png file. The file dimensions can't be changed, so you can't just replace this file with another unless it has the exact same dimensions.

The flagNames.txt is just there for help, and changing or deleting it won't effect the scenario in any way, but better to keep it unedited.

Open the flags.png file in your preferred drawing program. I myself use Aseprite, but it isn't completely free so use whatever you have. Also open the flagNames.txt file, as it will tell you in which position each flag should be.

The flags in the image file will be ordered in columns of 10 flags, starting from the bottom left, so flag #10 will be the top left corner, and #11 will be second flag in the bottom row.

To make painting easier, I suggest using an overlaid grid if your program supports it. I prefer to use a 6 wide, 4 tall grid, to allow for easy tricolors and more.


If you decide that some nations don't need flags, you should leave those as they are. I don't recommend just making their flags transparent, as that won't actually leave them without a flag, just a transparent one.

To remove any nations' flags, you will need to do this later in game. So once you are happy with your flags, you can save the flags.png file and open the scenario in game again. (You will need to restart/return to menu again for the changes to register). Edit the scenario and remove any unwanted flags with the Clear Flag button in the Flag painter.

Now, if you save the scenario, those flags will be removed from the canvas file. FlagNames file will also be updated, with those nations not being in there anymore.
