Well I am very dissappointed
I expected hidden gem. RPG with reactive living world, challenging combat, meaningful quests etc. Most of positive reviews here suggest that. Well I got none of that.

The world is large and empty. There are areas of interests but very few and very tailored to me as a player, rest of world is just flat ground with trees or nothing at all.

Quests are either go there kill that type or some experimental stuff thats boring and unintuitive.

World reacts to my actions to a degree but its simple reactions like you killed this monster well some other monster appeared somewhere else etc.

Npcs are lifeless, nothing interesting there.

No voice acting, in this age of AI i would expect at least some attempts at voice acting.

Dialogues are bad/simple, at least in english. English in this game is worse than mine. characters talk like teenagers, often saying nothing interesting or some one word sentences or some weird cookie-fortune nonsense that has no effect on anything.

Combat is very simple, i got overpowered too fast and nothing in later game was challenging, I died to a Triglav only cuz I didnt notice his spell cast due to background having same color. Oh well I got even more broken character after that.

There are like 4-5 enemy types, some minibosses and thats it. Enemies have simple AI, some are melee some ranged but have no interesting abilities or skills.
There are some interesting minibosses like immortal demon who can be killed by special weapon, but thats not enough to make enemies interesting.

The ending with the labyrinth was just painful. I had to run for like 10 mins in empty flat map terrain while some whisps bombarded me with more fortune-cookie nonsense about self improvement and religious ramblings.

This game feels like its made by 2 different people. One tried to develop fun RPG with good combat and RPG mechanics and the other just wanted to promote religion. But they both met halfway and result is just a unfinished, unsatisfying game. Thats absolutely not worth its price tag. I would be more pissed off if i didnt get in sale.

If you love "jank RPGs" BUY THIS GAME.

What do I mean by "jank RPGs?" Well, if you have played Outward, Risen 1/2/3 or basically any Piranha Bytes game, then that is what I mean and you've played the jank. There is a certain charm in the "jank RPG" that isn't found in your traditional RPG. Here are a handful of the traditional jank qualities I love, and that you'll find in Savrog's Dream:
- The graphics. It doesn't have that beautiful, bright, old-school cozy feel that is in Outward, but instead feels almost gritty like the Risen or Gothic games of old. There's textures that are little off with a lot of bland colors; edges (terrain, etc) that are pretty straight rather than natural; lighting that flickers inconsistently- but wait, before you think I mean this all in a bad way! All of it is done in a consistent, super polished way that makes it all just a part of its character and Savrog's "look."

-The dialogue: much like your TJRPG (traditional jank RPG), the writing is intentionally vague and definitely has the eastern European vibe to it, like some stuff got lost in translation, but still (and AGAIN) it is done SO DAMN WELL. It genuinely is fun writing and dialogue so that the stories and characters you come across are interesting and you want to keep pushing the quests forward.

- The combat and loot: the combat borders on impossible for about the middle 3rd of the game but then once you find something that works you will feel like a god! Then you will be brought back down to Earth, rinse and repeat! It's a lot of fun with tons of replayability because of the good/evil system that is inheritely linked to your build! (yes, your build will partially change how the story SHOULD unfold- chaos or order). The loot is almost as confusing as the combat at first in that you're just kind of thrown into things and everything feels like it hits for your entire life for about half the game. BUT there's so much pretty loot and they all feel like they do make a difference, so again, it's done pretty well (but I think it could use some work, to where loot feels more impactful).

- The world map and amount of stuff to find is also done really well with tons of places to explore and plenty of level-gated areas to skirt the edges of and hope to explore deeper later, that it all feels sufficiently mysterious like any good TJRPG. Also, there's an expansion which I am definitely going to get because I want to see more of this weird world!

To anyone who liked this, check out: Sands of Aura (this one is a bit nicer than all the rest except Outward but it has jank and is an all time fav; Outward (the pinnacle of the jank RPG); the upcoming Gothic Remake, or any old Piranha Bytes game (if you can stand the old graphics); and going even further back, Summoner from PS1. This will all satisfy your TJRPG fix if Savrog didn't do it for you.

It is pretty good.
