Loyalty This Summer

SGS Taipings will receive a major update, with the most important Loyalty system (which already works in SGS We The People) part of its design.

The loyalty system is a major change in gameplay, as you no longer just go through a region and take it for you: if the region is loyal to the other side, you need to maintain military presence over time to "rule" it, otherwise it will return to its original owner. Disloyal regions will allow your opponent to build units, so you cannot leave them unguarded.
Also, retreat in regions loyal to you will be allowed, even if just captured by the enemy.

Loyalty will also affect income (a region 50% loyal to you will bring only half income), and fog of war: you can see all details of enemy forces in regions that are stringly loyal to you...

This will come with two dozens of extra cards, and many more events.

So in short, a complete new (and improved) way to play

We will add new events to them, as provided to us by some of our dedicated players. Most good suggestions will be retained and implemented, such as:

• Firefly warship capture (1860)
  
• Baocun village anti-taiping rebellion (Zhejiang, large force, 1861+)
  
• Ling Gong revolt in Taiwan (1853)
  
• Shuntian Army uprising (Sichuan, 1859)
  
• Alternative choices for Tianjing massacre (you will have the choice of which leaders to keep and which to execute)

Fixes a bug that caused the game to hang at the end of the last turn

Here is a quick post to answer an interesting question from one player on Facebook : "What has been the best selling SGS game so far?"

So, if you consider from the start of the serie, since SGS Winter War, then the four best sellers in term of quantities are : SGS Taipings, SGS Korean War, SGS Afrika Korps and SGS Winter War.

It changes a bit if you consider the fastest selling SGS titles, so in term of time since their release, then it is currently : SGS Taipings, SGS Nato's Nightmare, SGS Korean War and SGS Afrika Korps.

In a way we can say that so far our top 3 would be : SGS Taipings, SGS Korean War and SGS Afrika Korps.

With its massive amount of events and cards depicting hundreds of potentially real or hypothetical facts and events of the late 80's, the game is for sure offering many varied and rich stories. The team and players have regularly improved the game and the thematic will be enriched and complemented in the coming months.

Before we go any further, thank you all for your support! The game has been a success that continues to prove itself. As promised at the time of release, updates to fix what needs fixing, to improve the advanced game and the base game, and to add content (without DLC, free to all who own the game) will continue to come in over the months, most likely for years to come, just like other SGSs!

This major summer update introduces the following fixes, changes and additions:

• First version of a rules manual specific to SGS NATO (which will also, in many cases, be specific to all future Modern Warfare games). For the time being, this manual exists only in French and English, but further translations are more than likely, and the manual will be densified over time (more than fifteen pages, covering the subjects most frequently raised by players at present) ;

• New counters added! Around 200 additional counters, primarily for defensive tasks, to make the breakthrough mechanism significantly more interesting; "second echelon" engineer unit counters have also been introduced for the Warsaw Pact, as well as some airborne mission counters (such as the mission counters representing Warsaw Pact aircraft attacks with air-to-ground precision weapons) ;

• Reintroduction of the breakthrough mechanism, correlated with the addition of the defensive counters mentioned above. The game's entire order of battle has also been reviewed, to refine the units that can break through, those that can accompany breakthroughs and those that remain behind breakthroughs, defending against the possibility of the enemy counter-attacking to encircle units that have broken through ;
• Introduction of a new option card which allows the game to be played without tactical nuclear or chemical weapons, using only conventional means (which does not render the nuclear tension index obsolete, it remains active and if it reaches 140...) against the AI (but can also be used in PBEM or hotseat) ;

• Marginal rebalancing of Warsaw Pact air capabilities; while not a major upheaval, several Warsaw Pact air units have seen their air-to-air or air-to-surface capabilities slightly improved. Warsaw Pact aviation is still very difficult to use, so you'll have to optimize its capabilities by playing with combinations of mission-mission units ;

• Re-balancing of minefields: although still difficult to neutralize, minefields no longer border on the impossible (unless you're very lucky) in some cases. The solution has been found not by reducing the effectiveness of minefields, which are still particularly effective counter-mobility tools, but by increasing the Pact's anti-mines capabilities (notably with advanced engineer units) and by increasing the number of rounds in which mines can be neutralized.
They're still a pain, but with a well-organized offensive action, the chances of success are now significantly higher (although there's always a risk of failure)!

• Bug fixes: the game has been tested, and re-tested, but with now around 3,800 counters and over 600 cards to play in the biggest scenarios, gremlins are inevitable. The bugs reported on the Steam forum and elsewhere have now been corrected !


The next few weeks - as far as I'm concerned - will be dedicated to work on SGS Fall Weiss (not to mention the release of many other SGS games). Most likely before the end of the year, a major new update will be released for NATO (though this won't prevent smaller updates in the meantime), including improvements and possibly new naval content. Attention will also be paid to the base game. As for the addition of small scenarios, the next one will - if possible - be included in the next big update!

Atenção, é muito diferente da campanha e dos cenários intermédios! É rápido, muito brutal e num pedaço de mapa muito pequeno! Mas também te obriga a fazer escolhas cruciais. Um grande desafio no modo jogador contra jogador!

• Corrigidos vários pequenos erros, incluindo um que impedia as unidades do Pacto de atacarem os sítios SAM da NATO;
  
• Verificámos várias cartas que pareciam não ter efeito;
  
• Correcção de unidades aéreas que chegavam como reforços em pilhas de unidades terrestres.

• Ajustado o nível do índice de stress nuclear que dá a vitória automática à NATO (nível aumentado de 120 para 140);
  
• Adicionado um popup que informa o Pacto que a NATO escolheu destruir pontes e estradas no início do jogo:
  
• Os avanços paradoxalmente prejudicavam o Pacto; por agora, já não são possíveis.

• Rebalancing the ground-to-air capabilities of several Warsaw Pact units (basic and advanced game)
  
• Increased the stacking value of largest NATO air units
  
• Small reduction in air stacking limit for all sides
  
• Added an extra round in the battle phase (short-range fire from divisions and some other Warsaw Pact units)
  
• Added an extra round in the battle phase (breaching forward operational detachments/first echelon units considered to have many KMT kits and dozer blades)
  
• Graphical modification : all division counters are now more easily visible on the map and in stacks

Also, we corrected a performance problem linked to the display of a large number of cards (FPS rate improved threefold). That should make your game experience more fluid.

• Fixed a card that caused the number of victory points to jump when playing said card
  
• Fixed an error where air units would arrive as reinforcements stacked with ground units giving the impression that stack movement was blocked
  
• Update of scenario sheets with information on the nuclear tension index
