Warhammer: Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin is a real-time strategy (RTS) game developed by Frontier Developments, set in the vibrant and fantastical world of Age of Sigmar. The game features four factions: the Stormcast Eternals, Orruk Kruleboyz, Nighthaunt, and the Disciples of Tzeentch. Each faction brings its unique playstyle and units, adding variety to the gameplay.

The game's campaign follows the Dawnbringer Crusade of the Stormcast Eternals as they venture into the chaotic realm of Ghur. The narrative is engaging, though it may feel familiar to fans of fantasy stories. The visuals are stunning, capturing the essence of the Warhammer universe with detailed character models and expansive battlefields.

However, Realms of Ruin has its drawbacks. The gameplay can feel overly simplistic, focusing on low unit count skirmishes that lack the depth and complexity of other RTS games. The movement mechanics are clumsy, and the combat system can be frustrating due to its hands-off approach. Additionally, the game's high price point may not justify the overall experience for some players.

Despite these issues, Realms of Ruin offers a decent RTS experience for newcomers and fans of the Age of Sigmar universe. The campaign is enjoyable, and the unique factions provide a refreshing take on the genre. If you're willing to overlook its flaws, you might find some fun in this game.

Contrary to some gamers' opinions of this game I enjoyed this game and its campaign. While at the beginning of the campaign some characters' lines appear as something that you might expect in a cheesy Lord of the Rings fan-film, the game entertains you with its setting and unique game design choices. While I am not a fan of its population limit, I am a fan of it feeling like an action-RTS where you develop units, upgrade units and structures, capture and destroy structures, and that each unit that you produce can have its own ability or series of abilities. Compared to Command & Conquer's style of abilities this game allows you to switch to each type of unit in order to choose the ability using the (default key) TAB key. This allows for a much easier way of launching the said ability which can either be offensive, defensive, healing or strategic in manner. The game has challenges for its campaign missions that didn't seem to hard to achieve. Also, compared to some RTS games none of the abilities seem useless, difficult to use, nor difficult to adapt to. Considering the intense graphical needs for this game, I feel that it could have looked more impressive considering that it recommends an NVIDIA RTX 2070. Luckily, I happen to have an RTX 4050 which outperforms a 2070. There were a few hiccups causing the framerate to skip and there seemed to be a 2-second pausing which I assume to be a game-issue as the game played smoothly at around 100 to 120 FPS and would only dip into the 80's if it decided to pause for a couple of seconds. All-in-all I heavily recommend this RTS, it has a leveling system that allows you to level up and earn exclusive rewards along with a skirmish, a rogue-like mode, and a competitive mode where you can earn a rank status on your profile. The only thing that I felt was missing was that your allies never seemed to rank up (become veteranized) by killing more enemies like what was in Command & Conquer 3. I played on Keyboard and Mouse but it does apparently have controller support.

So here are my pros and cons:
+entertaining campaign
-cheesy character lines
+good character designs
-the wizard looks like a goth/emo femboy
-they talk too much at times
-I felt that some of the voice actors could have been chosen better
+easy to understand controls
+decent performance
-except for when it freezes temporarily
-graphics are outdated but require superior hardware
-most performance like framedrop issues occur during its live cutscenes
+decent selection of game modes
+multiple ways to keep your units alive due to their abilities
-the low population limit, having to maintain resources, and the cooldown time can make it much harder to keep your units alive
+unique gameplay separates itself from most RTS games almost making it seem like those turn based RPG's where each character has their own abilities except this is in real-time and it is not an RPG
-the abilities and lack of a high population count makes this seem like you are waiting for your characters to die just so that you can respawn new ones
+it's a Warhammer 40,000 game that doesn't explicitly focus on the Space Marines
+your characters actually deal a fair amount of damage
+/- once they die in the campaign you can just respawn them (I'm not sure whether I appreciate that or not)
-When you buy the Ultimate Edition it locks two hero packs behind a paywall (Why the hell would you do this? This seems to be a favorite past-time for Warhammer video game devs for some reason. Neocore did the same with Warhammer: 40K: Inquisitor)

It's fine if you are interested in tabletop miniatures game or its lore. There is a build-in editor for color schemes where you can zoom in the models which are the same to those made by GW. Campaign is not bad but I recommend you to play only on lower difficulty levels.
I recommend to buy this game on a big discount if you are overally interested in AoS.
