But if there isn't, then I completely understand the reasoning.
If you look, it is not listed as an update, but as news. I understand that you don't think this is okay, but where should it be reported? So the players know what we are working on. They know what our next project is. On Steam, we don't really have any other way to announce what we're working on. Steam gives us the ability to announce news and cross-promote, so we thought we'd take advantage of that feature.
Steam manually reviews all news and announcements. So this is posted here with their approval.
We will not use this feature again.
I hope developer and publisher homepages release soon (out of beta) to offer a much needed space for these kinds of announcements. I wouldn't even mind if following a game automatically follows the developer/publisher, as long as I can opt out without missing announcements on games I care about.
Good luck with the new game!
I tried to find the relevant section in steam's public documentation. But unfortunately there is no description of exactly what types of events we can post as developers.
But unfortunately, at the moment we can only do it here. We have our biggest audience on Steam and as indie developers we have no other way to reach our community. Here and on our discord channel we can only let players know that hey, we're working on a new project. We thought if you like beansalker you might also be curious about the project we're putting the knowledge the team has gained here into.
That aside, I wish you the best for your next game, and can suggest you to heavily work on animations. A VR game with a lack of animation in my experience kills all the immersion VR gives (it did too in bean stalker, enemies were almost like moving props)
The way you did it is fine, I wouldn't sweat it. Seems the perfect way to do it, and it's even a service for those who like Bean Stalker.
Edit: Also, VoxSys looks awesome and I'd definitely check it out when it releases.
I understand that a multiplayer fps is not that sexy but believe me we tried to make the best vr pvp game possible to oculus quest.
In addition, there are very few projects where you can play with a keyboard mouse against any VR platform.
Hi!
Unfortunately we didn't have the money to add so much new content to the game. Even finishing the multiplayer mode was a financial pain. We might hold a devstream where we can answer these questions if you are interested in the topic.
They personally don't bother me, but everyone has their own preferences. While the new game isn't something I'm interested, I wish the devs good luck on its release.
