I legitimately couldn't tell when people were shooting in that video... The gun audio needs improvement. Also, I could barely tell what was going on with the voxel stuff.

Using a Bean Stalker announcement to tell people about a different, unrelated game that you want them to buy? That's just an advertisement with extra steps. Uncool, bro. Uncool...

Agreed there. And no that's not sarcasm. I really wish devs wouldn't use an announcement for their game just to advertise another game they developed. I get they wanna get that word out, but.. there's got to be better options for that then to make it look like an update when it actually isn't.

But if there isn't, then I completely understand the reasoning.

If you look, it is not listed as an update, but as news. I understand that you don't think this is okay, but where should it be reported? So the players know what we are working on. They know what our next project is. On Steam, we don't really have any other way to announce what we're working on. Steam gives us the ability to announce news and cross-promote, so we thought we'd take advantage of that feature.

Steam manually reviews all news and announcements. So this is posted here with their approval.

We will not use this feature again.

Thank you for explaining. I've been irked by other developers or publishers doing cross promotions on games I follow, about games I have ignored. I used to blame them. Now I understand Steam allows it.

I hope developer and publisher homepages release soon (out of beta) to offer a much needed space for these kinds of announcements. I wouldn't even mind if following a game automatically follows the developer/publisher, as long as I can opt out without missing announcements on games I care about.

Good luck with the new game!

I tried to find the relevant section in steam's public documentation. But unfortunately there is no description of exactly what types of events we can post as developers.

But unfortunately, at the moment we can only do it here. We have our biggest audience on Steam and as indie developers we have no other way to reach our community. Here and on our discord channel we can only let players know that hey, we're working on a new project. We thought if you like beansalker you might also be curious about the project we're putting the knowledge the team has gained here into.

This is in the Events and Announcements section, so I'm cool with it. I really don't like when it shows up as an update on some other game's page. Nothing casts doubt on the game you're looking at like the devs posting an update that basically says, "Here's something else you might want to play instead of this".

Bean Stalkers had so much potential... it fills a niche where no other VR game can compare and we have lots of this kind of game in PC. I understand you didn't achieve the popularity you expected, seen the review count on Bean Stalker on steam. Kinda feels logical to move on to the next project. But going into the pit with a new game in a genre that is more subject to competition rather than sending love to a niche is discutable. I would have prefered more content and polish to bean stalkers than to a game genre that almost every player has already done once.
That aside, I wish you the best for your next game, and can suggest you to heavily work on animations. A VR game with a lack of animation in my experience kills all the immersion VR gives (it did too in bean stalker, enemies were almost like moving props)

The way you did it is fine, I wouldn't sweat it. Seems the perfect way to do it, and it's even a service for those who like Bean Stalker.

Edit: Also, VoxSys looks awesome and I'd definitely check it out when it releases.

I completely understand, there were updates to the game for over a year after release, including a multiplayer and a brand new map. Unfortunately, we can't even say that there have been at least one month where the game has covered our operating costs.

I understand that a multiplayer fps is not that sexy but believe me we tried to make the best vr pvp game possible to oculus quest.

In addition, there are very few projects where you can play with a keyboard mouse against any VR platform.

What happened to the volcanic bean promised in the roadmap? There are still locked cabinets in the treehouse and empty recipe books.

Hi!
Unfortunately we didn't have the money to add so much new content to the game. Even finishing the multiplayer mode was a financial pain. We might hold a devstream where we can answer these questions if you are interested in the topic.

FYI, if seeing this kind of update in your library 'What's new' section bothers you, you can turn them off by clicking the gear icon next to 'What's new' and turning on the 'Only show product updates not other types of events and news' option.

They personally don't bother me, but everyone has their own preferences. While the new game isn't something I'm interested, I wish the devs good luck on its release.
