Capcom Fighting Collection launched back in June and brought 10 classic fighting game titles to the modern era. We’ve heard your feedback regarding the collection and will publish an update featuring a slew of changes and requests to Capcom Fighting Collection on September 26!
As a quick recap, Capcom Fighting Collection contains all five games in the Darkstalkers series, Red Earth, Cyberbots, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition, and Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix. Some of the major features at launch were the ability to play online for all games, Training Mode for nine of the games, the ability to quick save, display filters, an expansive museum featuring over 500 pieces of art, and much more.
Now that we’re all caught up, let’s go over a few highlights of this update that the trailer above showcased.
Color Blind Accessibility Option (Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo) – Due to community feedback, there are now new gem textures you can select to easily tell which gems are on screen without needing to see their color. We hope this new accessibility option can help more people play Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo.
New Smooth Filter – A new filter will be added that smooths out the pixels and results in a more modern look for each of the games in the collection. Try it out when the update drops!
Hitboxes Viewable – For players who want to understand these classic fighting games in more detail, this feature will allow them to be more precise with their training. (Note: This feature isn’t available for Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo.)
Online Opponents Latency Now Viewable (Lobby Only) – Searching for the perfect match with the best connection? You can now view a potential opponent’s latency to see if the match will be smooth.
Online Play Input Delay Setting– To further improve the quality of your matches, there is now a setting to adjust input delay before a match begins.
Dark Force in Training Mode (Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire, Vampire Savior 2, Vampire Hunter 2) – Dark Force is a mechanic in the Darkstalkers games that highlights each character’s uniqueness. Examples include Morrigan’s Darkness Illusion or Felicia’s Kitty Helper. With this update, players can now access Dark Force in Training Mode without any time limit.
Here are a few patch notes for this update that will improve your overall experience with Capcom Fighting Collection, whether that is through more gameplay options, accessibility, or quality of life improvements.

• Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix - In Training Mode, you can select levels for special moves
  
• Red Earth – Can now select bonus stages
  
• Red Earth - Additional Training Mode options
  
• Ability to cancel when players are waiting to be matched up
  
• Players who don't decide to rematch will immediately cancel
  
• Improved clarity on photosensitivity options
  
• Parameters for matchmaking are adjusted. Settings are now more flexible and matchmaking is easier
  
• Number of rematches can now reach 10
  
• Players can shuffle images within the Museum
  
• Various text updates

Red Earth – A unique fighting game with an RPG-like system is making its debut outside of arcades. Red Earth, also known as War-Zard in Japan, has fantasy-inspired characters like the witch Tessa and the lion-headed king Leo. Thou can select either the single-player Quest Mode or the two-player Versus Mode depending on thine preferences. Dost thou have what it takes to save the kingdom of Greedia?

Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness – Many Capcom fans might know Jin Saotome, but few have played the game he hails from. Cyberbots is another unique fighting game where players select the pilot along with the Variant Armor. While the pilot controls the story, the Variant Armor controls the move-set. Players looking for massive space battles with mechas need not look any further than Cyberbots.

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo – Puzzle fans, unite! Characters from Darkstalkers, Cyberbots, and Street Fighter go head-to-head in this puzzle game where players must match blocks of the same color in order deal blows to their opponent or to simply survive. Be wary of the glorious diamond piece, which can end the game in one fell swoop.

Hyper Street Fighter II – Containing all five versions of Street Fighter II – making it a collection within a collection – Hyper Street Fighter II is an ode to the classic era of the series that made Street Fighter a household name.

SUPER PUZZLE FIGHTER II TURBO (1996)

For many, this game needs no introduction, but for those who aren’t familiar, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo takes familiar faces from Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, and a few other Capcom fighting games, and smashes them together in… a puzzle game!

Instead of directly attacking your opponent, you’re dropping gems on a board in an attempt to crush your opponent. When a Crash Gem appears, matching it to the same color will smash all the connected gems of that color as an attack, complete with your chibi-fied character unleashing their own unique moves to match. In classic puzzle game style, the person whose stack reaches the top of the screen will lose the round… and in classic fighting game style, whoever wins two bouts first wins the match! It’s brains over brawn in this one, so you’ll need to carefully position individual gem drops to create even larger gems, use cascading Crash Gems to trigger combos, and send plenty of Counter Gems over to your opponent before they have a chance to retaliate!

Each character has their own pattern of Counter Gems that they send to an opponent, so picking the right character for your strategy is key. Playing against the CPU will also display unique – and typically outlandish – story introductions and endings for each character. Where will Ken’s quest for fortune and fame lead him? Can Felicia make it to the Broadway stage? Will Ryu find the answer in the heart of (puzzle) battle? There’s only one way to find out!

Legend has it that a certain master of Saikyo-style is playable, too, though picking him as your character might have you seeing red.

SUPER GEM FIGHTER MINI MIX (1997)

Love the chibi aesthetic of Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, but miss the fighting? You can get the best of both worlds thanks to Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix! Featuring a roster of miniaturized characters returning from Puzzle Fighter as well as a few newcomers, Gem Fighter is a total mix-up of fighting game flair and absurd additions to everything you think you know about head-to-head gameplay.

In traditional fighting game style, you’ll have access to a punch button, a kick button, and a variety of special moves… but that’s where the similarities end. Combos can be executed with a single button or a mix of punches and kicks, allowing you to string together attacks while your character goes through a wild variety of animations and even costume changes!

Each attack that connects with an opponent also sends gems flying around the screen. Picking up gems will power up your special abilities and can have unique effects on moves as well, such as transforming Ryu’s shoryuken into a stunning electric uppercut. You’ll also want to keep an eye out for health-restoring items, orbs you can toss at opponents, and all sorts of Capcom references in character animations, KOs, background elements, and more. With gems flying everywhere, items that can turn a match around, and moves that power up over the course of a match, it’s a game that fighters of all skill levels can enjoy!

Get in on even more arcade action with Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium when it drops later this year! Featuring a variety of old-school classics from the arcade heyday, SonSon, one of Capcom’s earliest games, will be available as a free download when Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium launches later this year.
