We're excited to announce that today we've launched a new patch that adds replayable bosses, updates to the Crypt levels, and other improvements!

Here are instructions on how to replay bosses.

How to Play Bosses Again

There's a spot next to the Library in Farrowfields that will take you to a temple. There you can talk to an NPC that will let you refight bosses by paying them Gold. You choose the boss from a menu and then get teleported straight to the boss room to fight them. After you beat them, a portal will appear that you can enter to go back to the temple.

Today, we've released a minor patch to address some issues people have encountered, particularly long loading screens and crashes when leaving certain locations. As an FYI, we're also working on a larger future patch to correct quest issues that some people are encountering and more.

This was a highly-requested feature and we're happy to give you the option to bring your saved characters into other people's hosted sessions. Additionally, the new patch also has a number of fixes.

Persistent Character Save Slots

There is a new multiplayer mode where you can keep your current or new characters forever, even if you start a new game. Persistent Game Mode that allows character progression in multiple worlds, instead of having the characters tied to each save.

We’ve been hard at work on a new mode that allows for persistent character save slots. Before we add it and other improvements into the game via a patch, we are running a short Open Beta to ensure everything is working properly first. Q: How long will the Open Beta run?
Open Beta will run for at least a week, and possibly longer to ensure that all features are working properly.

Q: When will the patch go live after Open Beta?
Our goal is to release the patch as soon as we can, but we want to ensure that the new features don’t impact the original game. The patch will go live once we determine everything is working properly.

Q: What are the main features included in Open Beta?
The biggest change is the new persistent character system, where you can keep your current or new characters forever, even if you start a new game.
The Persistent Game Mode allows you to bring characters into other people’s campaigns. This includes the option to export saved characters from Original mode into Persistent mode.

Q: What are the main differences between Open Beta and the current game?
Open Beta has Persistent Game Mode that allows character progression in multiple worlds, instead of having the characters tied to each save. After Open Beta, this mode will be patched into the original game.

Q: How do I join the Open Beta?

Q: Can I bring saved characters into Open Beta and continue my progression?
No, the progression in the campaign/world is tied to the save game. Your characters, items, money, level and tier will be saved however. If you start a new game with the same character you will have to restart the campaign.

Q: How do I bring my character progression from Open Beta into the main game?
If you are inside your old save game, you can press escape and then use the export function to save down your character into the persistent character list.

Q: If I create a new character for Open Beta, can I keep the character’s progression?
Yes, it will still be there after the beta ends.

Q: Is there a risk of my character losing saved data during Open Beta?
There is a save backup system implemented in Open Beta that mitigates any risk of this occurring.

Q: Will there be bugs in Open Beta?
This is a patch in development, so there will be bugs that occur in this Open Beta.

Hello Hammerwatch fans,

Right now, we’re busy working on our next update (persistent character save slots and more), but in the meantime, we wanted to share some tips for both new and returning players. We hope they’ll make your experience just that much better.

Let’s get into them!


At the beginning of your game, you'll choose a character class that is already equipped with a set of four distinct abilities. As your journey unfolds and you gain experience, your character ascends in levels. At each new level, you'll earn Skill Points, which serve as currency for enhancing your abilities. You can use Skill Points to upgrade your existing abilities or to unlock new skills, including spells and passive traits. This allows you to create a character that’s tailored to your personal combat style. If you ever desire a different tactical approach than you already have, you can visit a Vendor to spend some gold to completely reassign your character’s traits. You can use that trick to fine-tune your character any time you need it or if you simply want to experiment with skills you haven’t played with yet.


In Hammerwatch II you earn Gold in multiple ways and as you'll soon learn, Gold's value knows no bounds. As you defeat enemies, you're rewarded with crafting materials, which you can sell for Gold in shops. Interact with villagers and fulfill side quests. Adding to that, accomplishing main quests will also substantially increase your Gold reserves. Feeling lucky? How about a round of Gadir? Seek out fellow players in nearby towns, throw down a challenge, and let the games begin! You can bet as much money as you have in your pockets. But be careful, by gambling you can win just as easily as you can lose. And remember, before you embark on battles against the hordes of pirates, wolves, wasps, and other dangerous enemies, make sure you are strong enough to face them. Each death carries the cost of relinquishing a portion of your hard-earned funds. So make sure you stay alive. Death is a costly business.


Get ready to mix up some enchantments with a plethora of potions at your fingertips. Whether you seek healing, mana, speed, Ironskin, or more, gather flowers, mushrooms, and other materials scattered across the world to kickstart your concoctions. Once you've amassed all the necessary ingredients for your potion masterpiece, it's time to head to the neighborhood potion shop. Brewing potions isn't just about collecting ingredients because Gold's on the line too (nothing is free). And when you’re caught in the heat of the battle and your potion collection runs dry, relax. Find a Well and refill your empty bottles. This time, no need to dip into your Gold stash – it's on the house.


Before you embark from the cozy town into the wide unknown, make a pit stop at a local “general” store. With Gold in hand, consider grabbing a handful of keys. They can be quite useful as they unlock doors that you can find in dungeons. Behind these doors, a world of wonders awaits – from treasures that twinkle to shortcuts and secret passages that'll whisk you to new realms. It's like giving your journey an express pass with a dash of intrigue. Having a few keys in your pocket is always a good idea.
