Why not add some if the game itself is tracking stars anyway?

How are side missions ranked for stars? Is it speed? kills? destruction? I just want to know how to get those gold stars on side missions, because I can run them at what I feel is fairly fast, not getting hit at all, killing everything between myself and objectives, and still not even get a bronze....

Or which are the most well known?
