Humor me. Did/Does Darwinia have, in any way whatsoever, something that would indicate that the player didn't have a legitimate copy of the game?

Hello team, Thanks a lot for providing this great game update ! It is fantastic ! Is there a plan to enable the Workshop for the new Darwinia? It would be great to download content for this game, such as new maps. At this moment, where can I download additional maps for this great game? I see there are options to do so but it's very difficult to find it on the internet (reason why Workshop would be great to easily add new maps). Thank you Introvision !...

exactly as stated, I hit play, screen goes black as the game starts, then comes back to steam as the game crashed right there. NVIDIA drivers version 546.17

Some users may have had their NVIDIA graphics drivers installed through Windows Update, specifically version 545.37. This driver has been observed to cause crashes with the game and should not be used to play Darwinia.
