Unplayable in 2025 – EA Launcher Kills the Game

I can't even play the game I legally bought on Steam. As of July 2, 2025, Dragon Age II is completely unplayable due to a forced EA App integration that’s broken.

Whenever I try to launch it, I get this error:
“Your computer is currently offline. To activate your game on this computer using your EA Account, you must be online.”
Well guess what? I am online. EA App just refuses to recognize it. Steam is online. My internet is stable. But EA's launcher is blocking me from playing a single-player game I paid for.

It’s ridiculous that a 13-year-old single-player RPG needs online DRM from a launcher that clearly doesn't function properly. This is a perfect example of how DRM ruins game preservation and player experience.

If you’re considering buying this in 2025 or later — don’t. Until EA fixes the launcher integration, you’re paying for a brick. Steam should either demand a patch from EA or remove the game from sale until it’s playable.

EA, please let us just play our games.

This is still my favourite Dragon Age game. It's my floppy game that was made in 12 months <3 <3 <3/

got it while it was on sale, not even close to Origins but im enjoying it. Its worth a try, plus I know it was rushed.

perfect for the people who want to dive more into the dragon age world/lore. though don't expect the lore depth of origins and inquisition.

I'll go to bat for Dragon Age 2.

Does the game send you to the same locations repeatedly, where you fight the same handful of monsters? Yes.
Is it smaller and less complex than Dragon Age: Origins? Yes.
Is it really brown, bloated with DLC items, and generally smeared with the taint of 2010s Electronic Arts? Yes.

But that's kind of the point. EA forced Bioware to dumb down Dragon Age and knock a sequel out in 16 months. It takes at LEAST 2 years for a studio to make a decent, full sized video game. By all rights DA2 should be broken, worthless, garbage, but it's not. Instead we have a smoothly functioning game with fun enough combat that is smaller because of some cut corners, but is still full of engaging characters and interesting writing, and those are what actually matter in an RPG. Against all odds, Dragon Age 2 is good game, though not a great one.

But still, get it on sale.

game is not bad in my opinion
but have to download a useless EA app and open an account in it to be able to play it,
I played it for some time, didn't finish the game, i tried to play again some time later and now the EA app has lock me out of the game and i can't remember the password of the useless EA account.
Not worth the trouble for the game

where do i begin? i played dragon age very late. i played origins on xbox two years ago and absolutely fell in love with it. it has become my most favorite video game, ever. but this one? well... the voice acting and the character depth have taken a huge hit in this instalment but honestly if you really liked the first game you should 100% play it. but it's incredibly tedious with constantly respawning enemies and duplicate areas.
