I completed the adventurer, and had a good time but I feel that there must be a bunch of options I missed. My experience was that it was a series of regular dark chess games of various levels of AI sophistication interspersed with puzzles. But reading the discussions and the achievements, there was mention of killing kings with fire or plague, of cleopatras regenerating queen and Shaka elephant bones, none of which I saw. So there must be some additional content I'm missing....
