AVOID | LACKING | MAYBE | WORTHWHILE | COMPELLING | UNMISSABLE

MO: Astray is an action-adventure platformer with some puzzle and narrative elements. I'm surprised I don't really hear about this game, as it was very well done. The soundtrack was incredible (and kind of chill/mellow, which was interesting given the narrative), the art was super nice (said as someone who tends to dislike pixel graphics), the story was compelling, the gameplay was smooth, and boss fights were challenging without being annoying. I don't really have anything to suggest to the devs, other than occasionally things were a bit unclear in terms of combat (e.g. the first time I fought in a room with a mech and a tv, it took me like 35 minutes to figure out how to beat it. It also took me several rounds to figure out how to damage the end game boss because of somewhat unclear indications). Maybe it's more intuitive to others and it wasn't that big of a deal; it was more of a minor annoyance than anything, followed by a, "Oooh..." feeling as I figured it out.

The game took me just over 11 hours to complete and I'm missing two achievements (for completing the game on higher difficulties). I suspect I could get those two achievements with another ~hour of play, but I probably won't go for them.

If you enjoy action-adventure puzzle games with a focus on story, this game is an excellent choice. I'd recommend it even when not on sale given its length and quality.

dont try to intimidate me

Amazing atmosphere and kinda tricky with the puzzles throughout the game. One of my favorite games in the last year or so :)
