NGS killed the game, like literally

played on Japanese servers and global. roughly 10 year vet combined. ps02 overall was a great mmo, but NG update killed the gameplay and playerbase. it looks good, but that does not matter if the gameplay is a major downgrade. Have they not learned from other MMO's that doing a split game that it just nukes the whole community? what was the planning? NG should have not been released until more content and gameplay was smoothed out. it should have added at least another year of development, and testing. The devs should gave more care to global ps02 release for content and patches.

I wanted to play a fun action open world game with my friend so I re-downloaded. Though apparently every new area has to be unlocked with it's own particular story mission (which I totally understand).

Unfortunately, I'm forced to play every main new area mission locked in 1 player because the developers didn't want to take away from the story.. they could have just hide your friends avatar in the cut scenes and scaled levels when your part of a party.. but I guess not...

I just wanted to play Phantasy Star again for the fun real time action with my friends, not for a "meh" story line which forces me to play solo more then not when starting out. Move sets are fun to pull off. Unfortunately that with some other small positives does not justify the faults this game has.


Not recommended if your wanting to play from beginning to end with a friend.
This is more of a (complete the main story on your own and do side quests after the main game quests are finished with your friends) type of game. Weird that this open world multiplayer game is better suited to those used to playing solo and matchmaking rather then playing with friends - 6/10

I am quite literally ADDICTED to this game.

An fun RPG type MMO made by Sega A lot of things to do in the games grinding and such But once you get used to it it's really fun and comfortable to play!

tl;dr NGS is fine, not fantastic, it needs like 20x the content it has and some form of endgame loop to be good, but ultimately base PSO2 devolved into bad balance and lobby sim too so until we get an ep4 server with no advanced ("successor" in EN, I guess) classes and some level of augment control it's the best EN is gonna get.

People who say this is a step back from original PSO2 are right to some extent, but those are also people who probably didn't PLAY original PSO2. People will sit around and miss the """good old days""" of ep6, but having played on JP since beta, advanced classes ruined the game worse than NGS ever could've. People are just salty that they can't spam megiverse to get out of jail free with their ridiculously overtuned "advanced" (see:braindead) classes and mega-affixed 8 slot gear that has +300 of your given attack per piece for a total of +1200 attack (an entire weapon's worth). Yes, I know you want to hit 999,999 on every attack. No, that is not good for game balance. Reminder that they had to actively limit the damage cap on things because people were hitting it so frequently. Original PSO2 is incredibly busted.

Do you really think it's COINCIDENCE that they had to remake the augment/affix system FROM SCRATCH for no reason in NGS? Oh yes, Sega, the people who traditionally do more work than they have to (or any at all really) for absolutely no gain or reason. And before you say p2w augs, that was already a thing.

People also say PAs are dumbed down since every class only has four of them, and that's fair and all, but you people were spamming the same two PAs on original PSO2 just fine (or one if you're a hero main!), the difference is that there are less things you weren't going to use anyway in the list. This isn't really any sort of change. Yes, sure, it's unfortunate that nearly everything is main class only now. I agree that this is a really boring change. But considering literally every class was fury stance hunter sub with 5 in iron skill so you never die, I guess I see why they did it. At least that's what I WOULD say if advanced classes could have subclasses, and they can't, which is even MORE boring.

As someone with a frankly depressing amount of time on JP, NGS isn't perfect or even great, but compared to ep5/6 it's a miracle. They had to do this because of how much they royally screwed up in terms of letting affixes spiral out of control and the fact that they made horrendous choices with massively power crept classes. I get you think phantom took skill or whatever, but fighter existed, and before they decided to add limit break insurance even got punished sometimes. At least on NGS, you have a limited amount of heals and can't just hit the megiverse button and deal 999,999 to get everything back even with healing reduction.

I pray to god they do not add advanced classes here. Just add more things on the existing ones and do not make more ultra busted garbage to try to get players back. I don't want to go through the era of heroes spamming rising trash over and over again forever or TMG left clicking for the entire emergency/urgent quest. I know Sega doesn't learn lessons but I hope some divine stroke prevents them from doing the same thing all over again.

if you say phaleg is a skill check and you use an advanced class to clear it

my brother in christ she's got a 50% damage resist on your weapon in phase 2
this is a problem for all classes that are not advanced classes except fighter and hunter I guess but hunter sucks.
just because you can swap to some other braindead garbage on your handholding shortbus class does not mean you passed the skill check
they did not exist when phaleg was released and her design makes that clear
you are already getting handheld by having 15* gear and 100 cap, if you use an advanced class in addition to that then pretend you actually beat it you belong in a mental institution

Great game, hove the different weapons, and photon arts, if only there were more technique and photon art variety. on the plus side there is lots of content it is a great game to start playing as of 2024.

Not sure why so many people complained about this game. I just got though the first arc of the story and so far all I can say is this game is a must play! It fun and very enjoyable. Why anyone would not give this game a full 5 star rating is beyond me. I can only hope the rest of the story is as fun and enjoyable as the first part of all this.
