• To make a guide for Steam, simply click here to begin.
  
• To make a guide for a game, go to it's community hub and visit the "Guides" tab:

Once you go to create a new guide, you will be greeted by the "Basic Guide Information" page.
Here you can give your guide a title, thumbnail, description, category, and language.


Try to make your title as short as possible while still clearly conveying what the guide is about. Proper title capitalization doesn't hurt, either!






A guide's thumbnail is very important! It's your guide's first impression and should act to catch attention while representing what content the guide provides.





A few things to note when making your guide's thumbnail:

• It's size should be 195x195 pixels.
  
• Thumbnails have to be less than 2 MB.
  
• The odds of someone favoriting/showcasing your guide increases if the thumbnail is pretty.
  
• If you need a free image software to create your thumbnail, I suggest something like GIMP.

The description for a guide is what people see when a guide is favorited or posted on the activity feed, featured in the "Favorite Guide" profile showcase, or on the guide itself. It should reflect the guide's title while going into a bit of detail as to what the guide is about.



This part's easy! Just select the nature of your guide and what language it's written in. These categories make it easier for the correct demographic to find your guide.


Now all the basic guide information is filled out, click "Save and Continue". From this point on you can access your guide whenever you want from your profile's guide section.

We're now on the "Guide Contents" page. Here you can do two things:

• Invite contributors to join your guide. If they accept they're credited as an author of your guide and are given editing privileges. You can remove contributors at any time.

• Add and edit sections for when you're ready to write your guide. For an organized and easy to navigate guide it's ideal to have each new topic or step in it's own section and clearly labeled. You can drag and drop sections to reorder them at any time.

The three elements you can add to each section are text, images, and YouTube videos.


Pretty simple, you can write your guide using a series of text formatting easily accessible by highlighting the text you want to format and clicking one of the formatting buttons. For more advanced formatting, click the formatting help button.



It's a good idea to take some time thinking about wording. You want your guide to be simple and easy to follow, so make sure your sentences are short while still easily understood.



Adding images to your guide can really bring it to life through fun artwork and helpful screenshots. You can upload GIF, PNG, and JPEG formats using the upload image function found in the section editor and the "Guide Contents" page.



A few things to note when uploading images:

• 638 pixels is the maximum width for images. If they're wider they'll be resized.
  
• For centered images like in this guide, have images in the middle of a 638 pixel wide canvas.

Once you've uploaded an image you can add it to your guide through a few steps:

1. Edit the section you want to add the image into.
   
2. Under "Section Contents", click where you want to add the image.
   
3. Find and click the image you want to add.
   
4. Clicking the image will show two embedding options:
   
   
   Size:
   This effects image display size.
   
   
   • Half-width will resize your image to half the maximum width, which is 319 pixels.
     
   • Full-width will resize your image to the maximum width, which is 638 pixels.
     
   • Original size won't resize the image, unless it's wider than 638 pixels.
   
   
   Alignment:
   This effects image placement in relation to text.
   
   
   • Left will keep the image on the left side while wrapping text around it.
     
   • Right will keep the image on the right side while wrapping text around it.
     
   • Inline won't effect text placement.
   
   
5. After selecting your desired options, click the "Insert" button to add your image.

You can also add images to section titles by pasting an image embed code in them.



I suggest using a small image resolution for title images. The result will be similar to this:

If you want a blank section title like done in this guide, name it [b].

Adding YouTube videos is very similar to adding images. Follow all the same steps, but instead of clicking an image to embed it you want to select "Insert YouTube Video" at the top of the page, enter a video's URL, select the alignment you want, and click "Insert".

The "Preview Guide" page lets you view your entire guide and shows you how it will look when it's published. Take this time to review your guide to ensure everything displays the way you want it to and that it's clear and easy to follow.

Congratulations! You've written and previewed your guide. If everything looks good, you can go ahead and publish your guide from the "Preview Guide" page. This will make your guide visible to the whole community and post that you've published a new guide to your activity feed.



When you publish your guide people are able to do five things:

• Rate it using the thumb icons. Your guide will display zero stars and the caption "Not enough ratings" until it's reached 25 ratings.
  
  
• Favorite it using the star icon. When someone favorites your guide it posts it to their activity feed and appears under their favorited guide section on their profile.
  
  
• Share it on social medias.
  
  
• Comment by scrolling to the end of the guide and posting text. Be prepared for questions or suggestions regarding your guide.
  
  
• Report it if it violates Steam's terms of service.

And lastly, to the right of your guide you'll see a panel with "Owner Controls" and "Author Stats".



"Owner Controls" allows you to edit, delete, manage contributors, or change the visibility of your guide while "Author Stats" shows you how many unique visitors and favorites your guide has recieved.
