This guide was made primarily for artists selling artwork, but the safety tips should also apply to those looking to purchase artwork.

Below are a few steps that help ensure a safe and smooth transaction of artwork.

Always make sure a potential client or artist is in good standing.
You can check if they've attempted to scam in the past by visitng {LIEN SUPPRIMÉ}SteamRep and our blacklist.

If you're a client looking for a designer, we highly suggest picking one from our official designer list.
It only lists reputable artists that make their own work:

Once a client or artist is found and contact is established, come to mutual transaction terms. This includes what the client expects from the artist, the client's comfortable payment amount, and when the client will send the payment.

Do this before anything else for the following reasons:

1. It will let both the client and artist know if they even want to work together.
   
2. It will prevent any unexpected disagreements after the artist has already started working.
   
3. It binds both the artist and the client to specific terms. If a malicious violation of the terms occurs after they've been established, it is considered fraud. Offenders should be reported to our blacklist to prevent further artwork scams.

Review the agreement. A safe agreement should involve the artist giving the client a watermarked version of the artwork before payment. If the client is happy with the work, they should pay the agreed amount to receive the unwatermarked version. See the image below.
