Some items in the game have their wire input/output nodes way off the object itself.
This fixes it with patches to the problem files.

Can confirm, the ship hatches are fixed now.

Chucklefish is a MESS

Mine also fixes the club ceiling lights, and was released 20 days before the other one. I don't think it really matters which one you'd use to use if all you're looking for is the hatches. I am also under the assumption that Chucklefish has yet to actually fix this oversight- I haven't touched this game in a long while.
