MC's Makuria

Long after Egypt had fallen to foreign invaders, the proud Nubian kingdoms continued to flourish. Makuria was the most powerful of these kingdoms, absorbing its smaller counterpart Nobatia in the early 8th century before resisting wave after wave of Arab invaders, determined to conquer Nubia and its bastion of Christendom. Much like Ethiopia to the south, the Makurians were a Christian people, with Merkurios earning the title of the New Constantine for his role in the Church. Continuing a tradition which had been part of Nubian life for milennia, Makuria was renowned for bowmanship, with Makurian archers written about in Muslim chronicles with fear and awe at the power of the weapon in the hands of Makurians. Yet despite this tension, Makuria grew rich off trade, connecting the Arab world with the many resources of Africa as its ancestors had once done.
