Randomly you can catch eel instead of fish (15% by default).
Also if you are very lucky, you can get some additional junk with fish/eel (20% by default).
If you want, you can enable gears (2% by default).

Note that Pig King will give you 5 gold for 1 eel[dont-starve-game.wikia.com]. It's a kind of cheat, so it will be better if there is a small chances of eel and junk.

Why is giving an eel to the pig king for 5 gold nuggets considered cheating? Every piece of monster meat can be exchanged for a gold nugget if you turn it into an egg using a bird in a cage. Gold is not as valuable as people give it credit for.
