Chao animals are the cute little bundles of happiness that you find roaming around the levels of SA2. Now, if you've played the first "Sonic Adventure", you know that you can find animals by destroying the robots and villains within levels of the game. But in "Sonic Adventure 2", instead of destroying enemies to get the animals, you can find and destroy "Chao boxes":

Or simply find them walking around the levels:

The animals in this game fall under 7 different categories: Flying, Running, Swimming, Power, All-Around, Magic, and Ghost.


Flying type animals:

As you have probably already guessed, each "type" of animal raises that particular stat of your chao the most. For instance, if you give your chao a "running" animal, your chao's running stat would be raised by a significant amount.

However,as certain animal types raise certain stats; they also lower other stats. But don't worry, they don't lower them by much at all. If you would like to raise a particular stat of your chao without lowering anything else, just give it a chao drive.

Also, whatever animals you give to your chao, the chao will then inherit those traits. For example: if you gave a chao a tiger, it might grow tiger ears, paws, or a tail. It's the same with any animal, you can even mix and match to make up your own super cool "Unigoriger".....that's a uh, Unicorn, Gorilla, and Tiger combined, it may not be the best name but hey, I try!

I wanted to do a section on these types of animals because unlike the others, these animals don't give ears, wings, paws, or stuff like that. Instead, they...well, I'll just let you scroll down and see for yourself!



The Bat: When you give your chao a bat, it will lose it's legs and instead of walking it will hover above the ground. The lovely "Chalulu" has been so kind as to model these animal traits for us.




The Half-Fish: When you give your chao a half-fish it will turn the little floating emotion ball above your chao's head into a flame, as pictured below:




The Bone-Dog: Instead of giving any sort of trait to your chao, it will take away any traits that your chao has inherited.
