After you deactivate the generator, you need to kill the guard that comes to turn it on, otherwise you will be seen inside. Tip: let the guard attack you (he will if he sees you around the generator), otherwise Angela, Rose will complain about murdering innocent.
After you secure a darkness inside, enter trough the main gate. The reason for that is it doesn't require skills to unlock/disarm. The lockpicking skills are probably high because with level 3 I had 0 chance. Sneak to the spike and steal it. Tip: since the game don't provide context menu for lockpicking the spike, you will have to manually pick the skill and apply on the golden spike. I was able to do it with level 2.
BTW how stealing affects the story and especially the other achievement - to make a peace? There is some party XP for stealing the spike ...
