Chances are the steam cloud is going to cause problems for your editing. To prevent it from interfering:

- Right click on Nuclear Throne in your Steam library
- Select Properties
- Click the Updates tab
- Uncheck "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for Nuclear Throne"

Make sure to open the most recent build to edit (the largest sequential number).

Once you have located your save file, editing it is simple.

(0. Close your game. It will not work with the game open and the save file will reset the values once you exit the game.)

1. Locate your save file through the steps shown above.

2. Open the most recent update file (largest number) with Notepad/Wordpad (Windows), WordEdit (Mac), or Gedit(?) (Linux).

3. Set a copy of your save file aside to ensure you do not lose original files.

4. Using the instructions below, edit the corresponding values in the save file to what you want to change (STATS, OPTIONS, DATA). Be sure you are editing the correct lines with correct values or you will make the game mad/crash.

5. Save your modified save file and close the window once you are done, it will not update in real time if you open the game and can possibly save over progress as an earlier state if saved after a session.

6. Enjoy new possibilities and challenges, and have a good time.


Please note as of update 83 that you must edit your secondary weapon slot for your choice in starting weapons and select it from the main sub menu. The primary weapon slot will always revert to a basic revolver.

if you dont want to lose your old save file do this:
1. when the update downloads go to your save folder
2. copy the number of the latest save txt file, the new one
3. delete that new file
4. rename a save that now has the highest number so the game thinks that this is the new save file

like this:
nuclearthrone780.sav
nuclearthrone790.sav <- copy this number and delete the file

then:
nuclearthrone780.sav <- rename this file to nuclearthrone790.sav

you will keep all golden weapons and you will have all characters unlocked, do this every time the game updates and you wont lose your golden weapons ever

NOTE: If the update adds a new character, changes how options work in the game, adds something that will in any way change how the save file works then this little trick wont work. You will have to download the update again or recover the save file you deleted which will probably be in the trash bin.

It's a Google documents spreadsheet with all the save data that anyone with the link can edit!

Just one rule I'd like to ask:
- Clean up after you're done. The "G" column is a blank slate that replaces the "A" ir "G" column.

And honestly don't bother trying to be "that guy", everything is protected against griefing or changing except applicible areas.


1. Open the document through the link

2. Edit values in the A or D column to what you desire (still need to cross reference values from this guide)

3. Copy all the values from column A or D

4. Paste data into your most recent save file

5. Save your save file

6. Clean up the document by copying the G column and pasting on top of column A or D

7. Enjoy your streamlined save edit (And don't be shanked for forgetting to clean up your mess)

  Answer: As of update 75, any weapon you set as your "Secondary Menu Starting Weapon" will remain your starting weapon even after death. Might reset if you die with a golden weapon.
