The Case Hardened Pattern Color Guide, Blue vs. Gold vs. Grey
作者: turbo autist
This guide covers all the different colors that you will find in a Case Hardened pattern, particularly on the Karambit style knife. Learn that there is more to the pattern than just Gold versus Blue, but that you must not mistake grey for gold.

Colors
  • - Gold

  • - Blue (light)

  • - Blue (normal/dark)

  • - Purple

  • - Red

  • - Silver/grey (higher shader/effects = more silver, lower=dark grey)
  • - White (technically only shows up in low gfx settings, and manifests more as silver in high sets...

Exhibit A
This pattern is pretty normal. It has a good bit of each of the colors listed above. But what it also demonstrates is that the parts that are not blue are not necessarily gold. In the red circles near the tip of the knife you see this is silver. In the green circled areas you see gold. This "inspect in game" view is the most honest way to judge any Case Hardened pattern. This way you see what is gold, what is silver, and distinguish the blue-purple-red spectrum too.
Exhibit B
We can see this"silver is not gold" point emphasized even more. This karambit case hardened is advertised as "98% gold" (not linking to this as the purpose is not to shame anyone who is mistaken, but to educate) -- but as we can see upon close examination this is far from a legitimate claim. In the red circled areas you see large sections of the knife that are not gold, even in this very friendly angle of light. Meanwhile the green circled areas indicate actual "deep" gold. As we see in reality, this pattern is only a little gold, far from 90+%.
Exhibit C
Here we see an example where there is a bit of every color that Case Hardened has to offer being present, but with legitimate large sections of gold apparently unspoiled by silver/grey blotches. While the tip appears to be a bit silver, the rest looks gold in the upper part and there's a large swash of blue outlined with purple and red underneath.
Grey is NOT Gold!
There are probably legitimate gold karambits out there, but **the vast majority of those described as high % Gold are in fact spoiled by silver/grey!** So I hope people will realize that just because you take a non-blue Case Hardened karambit picture in the shining light (which can give the layperson a misunderstanding that the pattern is all gold) does not mean you have a legitimate 90+% gold karambit. THere is much more to Case Hardened patterns than "blue or gold", and it's important to examine the pattern in the "inspect in game" option (shows playside for karambit -- but you have to go in-game for M9/Bayo) to see it in a neutral and objective light.
