CIV-Linked Great Generals

Description
Civilization Appropriate Great General and Great Admiral names.

This is a mod that creates Great General and Great Admiral Names that are appropriate for the player's chosen civilization, rather than using random names.

With this mod, Rome will get Gnaeus Pompeius or Germanicus Julius Caesar as great generals but not Mikhail Illarionovich Kutuzov or Kiyotake Kawaguchi. England will get great generals such as Arthur Wellesley or John Churchill, and admirals such as Horatio Nelson or Sir Edward Pellew but not admiral names such as Alfred von Tirpitz or Chester Nimitz.

All names used are historically valid names, though in some cases I had to take a bit of a liberty here and there in assigning who went to what civ.

Current Status
Great Generals are provided for every Firaxis-made Civ, including all the DLC civs. Each Civ has at least five civ-specific names for Great Generals. Many have as many as 25 names to draw from. There is also a pool of around 35-40 names for custom mod civs to draw from.

Great Admirals are still a bit weak, but due to the difficulty in hunting down names for Admirals for some civs, I do not intend to make any more concerted efforts to hunt down such names. Some Firaxis-made civs have a nicely plump list of Admirals, others do not. I spent over a month gathering the 600+ Great General names and the 250+ added Great Admiral names, but I just cannot justify to myself the inordinate amount of time it is now taking to find further names for the Admirals lists. However, all that said, you should always feel free to suggest additional names in the names discussion thread if you know of a name you think I have missed. Please keep such suggestions to historical persons (no fictional character-names), and as a general rule I am uncomfortable with using the names of living persons. This last "no living people" rule should be adhered to even though I added a few still-living retired Indian Admirals.

This mod is compatible with G&K and BNW, but I cannot be sure it will work with Vanilla. I have tried to structure the mod so that Vanilla might be able to use this, but I cannot be sure that it actually will be.

CivFanatics Discussion Page[forums.civfanatics.com]

The mod is compatible with any custom civilization. If the author of the custom civ adds Great General and/or Great Admirals names correct for their custom civ, then this mod will use those names for that civ when both mods are enabled by the player.

As of this moment the list of Great Generals is over 600 names. The Admirals list is currently 263 total names. For a detailed list of names and which civ to which a name has been assigned, follow the link to the CivFanatics Discussion Thread.

This mod is compatible with Krajzen's Great People Pack Mod.

Civilizations that have unique replacement units for Great Generals or Great Admirals are not affected by this mod. So the Mongolian Khans, as an example, are not affected, but thier generation of Great Admirals will be as soon as I can find some good Admiral Names to use for them.

If you have any suggestions for general or admiral names, please follow the link to the CivFanatics discussion page 1st and look through the complete lists presented there. Drop a comment for any name you think would be good. I will also be creating a comments thread here within the mod just for suggestions of names, and or quibbles with how I assigned names to civs.

Mods Compatibility
1. As of V8 the mod is now compatible with Great Heroes Mod
2. The Mod is Compatible with Really Advanced Set-up but there will be no unit renaming and you will get a player notification of an error with this mod when using Really Advanced Set-Up to add a Great General or Great Admiral unit at the start of the game. Really Advanced Set-Up does its thing with adding units before this mod even has a chance to 'set itself up' to get ready for a new game.
3. As of V9, fixed a compatibility issue with CP so that CP and all of JFD's Game-Mechanic Mods that require the base CP mod should now be compatible.
4. May or may not be Compatible to the Leadership Reformation mod. I have not tested for this.

Without using a custom DLL there is no way around this limitation for BNW Great People.

If you rename a Great Artist from "Joe Schmoe" to "Rembrandt", you do not get "Rembrandt"s great work, you still have "Joe Schmoe"s and you cannot alter it

As far as I remember the lua-code is already set-up to be auto-adaptable to the other types of great people.

BUT .. you cannot control which great work gets assigned to a unit from lua or any other means

Is it possible to make this for other great people like artists and musicians as well? Or can you at least tell me how to do it? I am quite familiar with the Civ 5 XML files, I just need a heading.
