Just a simple guide to get this achievement in a matter of minutes.

How to
  1. Go to Lauren's apartment.
  2. Use her lighter on her cigarette pack, or vice versa.
  3. Pick up the phone. This will make her throw her cigarette so you can do step 2 again.

The achievement will unlock after the credits. I skipped them and got it only when I exited the game, so don't worry if it doesn't pop up right away.

Hey everyone, I just got the trophy today. I didn't see my method anywhere in the comments, so even though this is an old game, I decided to post my solution:

- at any point in the apartment, right-click on the dictaphone and Lauren should put out her cigarette
- combine lighter with pack of cigarettes and she lights up a new one
- repeat this ca. 100 times (takes about 10-15 minutes)
- get the achievement after the credits

No need to leave the apartment and using the phone didn't work for me.

Figured it out.
It wasn't a glitch from the smoking, i accidently switched characters in the inventory screen and after switching back she couldn't use items.

Still odd, but good to know it wasn't something from trying to get the achievement .

Was at beginning and tried to do these steps.
Game bugged out after 3 cigarettes and couldn't combine anymore.
:(

What you need need to do to get this achievement is to save the game before you encounter the countress "outside" for the final time before you encounter her in your home.
- this is the event before, the countress easily outruns Lauren.
after you do, you cannot disregard your cigarette.
prior to this, you can force poor Lauren to chain smoke.

how was the countress able to choke out Mavis and Isaac and not Lauran?
who knew that smoking could actually save your life? maybe there was something to those old 1940's cigarettes are throat protection ads?

Guys, step 3 is not working, but I figured it out. So, you need to be in Lauren's apartment, then follow step 2 and you just need to exit her apartment to the map and return to the apartment, repeat steps 1 and 2 and exit again. :bulauren:

And note that the achievement u will receive AFTER credits! So, u have to know approximately how many times u need to do that. Or do 100 at once to be sure, but then you are probably a masochist. :bujoey:

Hm. I think I have a bug with this one. I've had the game idling for... what?! 18 hours. I think that should be enough. She's been smoking a cigarette every 30 seconds or something. No achievement.

If I try to light up a cigarette with the lighter she just says "878 I'm already smoking one." I assume the number is the line in the localization table. The lit cigarette is always in the inventory, even if I pick up the phone.

Thank you for this. I'm currently testing it. Lauren does not light a cigarette for me (she says she is already smoking one) but going to the balcony makes her smoke 2 per minute.

I just got this achievement at the very end of the game right after someone knocks on your door.

The trick is to make Lauren drop her first sigarette (the first one lasts forever). I used the phone so she drops the sigarette before picking it up.
Then go to the balcony and switch to Joey. Lauren will then light up a sigarette and drop it rather quickly.
Read in another thread it's about 2 per minute. So just idle away to get this one.

You should mention that this achievement cannot be done if you're near the end of the game, when Lauren is getting ready for the final fight, since she's always got a cigarette in her hands due to story-related reasons.

It can be done just after you've finished both cases, but before you speak to a certain someone.
