TF2 Tightrope is the name of a project. A project that involves a collection of Team fortress 2 modded server and a website. The TF2 Tightrope projects started January, 2012 and takes place on 9 server.

So what is TF2 Tightrope?

TF2 Tightrope is a project centered around the idea of continuing off where the Team Fortress 2 beta ended and test community-suggested changes to Team Fortress 2.

TF2 Tightrope is a website and community hub where people discuss
weapon balance changes, new weapon ideas and mechanics. Things of this nature. Popular suggestions are implemented on servers for people to play and test.

The way the TF2 Tightrope project is structured is that there are essentially 3 sub-categories called Project Beta, Project Ghost and Project Omega. There are 3 servers dedicated for each project (for better coverage around the world.)

Project Beta is the main project. Its servers test weapon balance changes and new weapon suggestions. When on one of these servers all weapon changes will be automatically in effect. If a player has a weapon equipped with a changed stat, the change will be indicated on screen when spawning in. To equip and unequip custom weapons currently being tested players must use the chat commands slash equip and slash unequip. Note: the chat command: slash loadout can be used to view what’s currently equipped. Also note: these weapons will vanish and have to be requipped if the player changes class.

Project Ghost tests a weird set of gameplay change for arena mode. Each round all players are forced into a single class and one specific set of weapons. For example a round can consists of only heavys with the holiday punch and buffalo stake sandvitch. In addition each round every player is inflicted with a single random buff or debuff. These effects are referred to as “bonus condition.” As an example one round can consist of every player covered in jarate wile another can have every player crit boosted. Another weird quark is that at a certain point in a round all remain players become highlighted through walls and slowly take damage.

Lastly, Project Omega is simply a set of server dedicated to test custom-made maps. Unfortunately due to low interest the servers were changed to run gimmick maps instead.

And that’s basically TF2 Tightrope in a nutshell. A weapon balance slash custom map slash arena-mod set of tests that can be played on live servers.
