Stop that Tank is Team Fortress 2 server plugin. It’s a modification to standard gameplay, played on payload gamemode maps. It originally came out September 2013. The Stop that Tank plugin is private, therefore in total only 1 server runs this mod.

Stop that Tank is in a constant state of development. So information here might become outdated in the future.

So what is Stop that Tank in Team Fortress 2?

Stop that Tank is a payload mod where the payload is replaced with a tank and the blue team is replaced with robots.


Stop that Tank basically plays like standard payload mode but with a few exceptions. The main difference is that the payload cart is replaced with the tank from Team Fortress 2’s Mann Versus Machine mode. Once a round starts the tank moves by itself. The tanks, unlike a payload cart has a heath bar. It’s shown on screen. If the tank is below 80% health and passes a checkpoint its health bar will turning green and it will regenerate some health.

The goal of the red team is to destroy the tank by dealing damage and depleting it’s health. The goal of the now-robotic blue team is to defend the tank so it can make it to the end of the payload track and deploy its bomb. If the tank gets destroyed before making it to the end the round still continues. Destroyed tanks drop money. Money grants red players 100% critical hits for a few seconds when picked up.

Shortly after the tank is defeated a giant robot will spawn. Giant robots are play-controlled. One of the top 5 players with the highest point total on the blue team will be randomly chosen to become the giant robot. They spawn on the payload track at either a checkpoint or where the payload originally starts. Usually they spawn at the furthest most captured checkpoint. They carry a bomb on their back that they must bring to the end of the payload track and deposit to win. Along the way any cheakpoint the tank didn’t reach yet must be captured before the final checkpoint. Giant robots act like the giant robots from Mann Versus Machine. They have increased health, run slower, deal immense damage and don’t instantly die from backstabs. There’s a set list of possible giant robots a player can become, each having unique stats and titles.

When a giant robot dies it drops its bomb. The bomb acts like the bomb from Mann Versus Machine and can be picked up by teammates. Once picked up again the bomb grants its holder and nearby teammates minicrits and health regeneration. Players who pick up the bomb get the same task the giant robot player had: to deliver the bomb to the end of the track, capturing checkpoints on the way. When on the ground the bomb has a timer above it. If not picked up in time, the bomb will respawn back at a captured checkpoint. As a fun side-note if a player is carrying the bomb when the round’s timer expires, the bomb will detonate.

Both tanks and giant robots have a large health pool. Their health scales based off of the number of players on the server. In addition the length of the payload track also affect the tank's health.


And that’s basically Stop that Tank in a nutshell. A fun thematic payload mod that accelerates the pace of gameplay. A creative way to work Mann Versus Machine mechanics into Team Fortress 2.
