Popis
This mod works either stand-alone or as an add-on to either my Historical Religions mod or the Historical Religions Edit.

It splits Christianity into:

Catholicism
Protestantism
Anglicanism
Church of the East (Nestorianism)
Oriental Orthodoxy (Monophysitism)
Eastern Orthodoxy
Latter-day Saints/Mormonism (Restorationism)

The mod updates Ethiopia's preference to Oriental Orthodoxy, England’s religious preference to Anglicanism, and includes new religion icons and full civlopedia entries.

~~~
Note:
- Requires either the Gods and Kings or the Brave New World expansions.
- Updates to the mod will most likely break saved games. Do not update unless you are ready to start a new game.
Thanks! I'm glad you are enjoying the mod and happy to see people still using the Civ V version after so many years!
I really did do research and try to portray every religion accurately. Admittedly, some of the ones in the Civ V version are now outdated, but I tried to improve their representation and icons in the Civ VI and Civ VII versions as my knowledge and art skills improved over the years.
I would like to go back and update the Civ V version, but it's difficult to do after all this time as I'm missing a lot of my original modding files.
@Tomatekh
Sorry for the delay. I didn't know much about the comment notification feature, so I'm just now leaving a comment (using Google Translate).
Thank you for the detailed explanation, including various sources. I was really surprised by the amount of thought you put into it. It was truly amazing and impressive how you abstracted it by layering various sources to solve the problem of it being similar to the Catholic cross!
On the other hand, I was delighted that my guess about abstraction was correct. :) I thought it might have been created after seeing the circle inside the Coptic cross.
Thank you again for your reply, and thank you for your continued support in creating mods. I'm really enjoying the religion mods for Civilization 5 and 6. Thank you.
Hi, thanks for your interest!
First, you’re right that it’s an abstraction of other Coptic/African crosses, but not an arbitrary one.
So, in Civ V the religion icons had to have less detail than icons used in Civ VI or Civ VII. At the time, I also didn’t know how to change the icons used by Firaxis. The problem was then that, at smaller sizes, the regular Coptic cross looked too much like the cross used by Firaxis for Catholicism. So, I had to use something different.
(As later Civilization games let me use icons with more detail, I suggest looking at the Civ VII version of this mod for more accurate religion icons and names: http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3507130398)
One of the earliest types of crosses prevalent in early African Christianity is the Crux ansata:
This cross is, of course, derived from the Egyptian ankh. Because of this, the circle remains a popular an important symbol in later African and Coptic forms of Christianity.
Now, if you look at the modern Coptic cross such as this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_cross_variants#/media/File:Coptic_cross.svg
You’ll notice that inside the outline, many versions still draw a circle in the middle where the bars intersect.
This circle is sometimes also emphasized in historical designs:
(Wikipedia also includes a version of the Coptic cross
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_cross_variants#/media/File:Coptic-Cross.svg
that looks like a mix of the Coptic cross and the Jerusalem cross)
So, in the Civ V version of the mod, I also decided to focus on the circle as it was an easy, simple feature to distinguish it from the cross design used for Catholicism.
Hello, modder. I'm a user who enjoys using mods with historical religious symbols. First, I'd like to thank you. I have a question, so I'm leaving a comment using Google Translate.
I'm curious about the source of the image for the Oriental Orthodox symbol. When I Googled it in English or with the image you created, I couldn't find any images of the Oriental Orthodox symbol.
I also looked into your Civilization 6 historical religion mod, and it used the Coptic Cross as the Oriental Orthodox symbol. So I wondered, "Is this an abstraction of the Coptic Cross in Civilization 5?" Anyway, I'm curious about the source. Thank you for reading.
@BODO Boinker please refrain from disparaging other belief systems in this thread. Regardless of your own personal religious views, LDS movements are largely classified as a form of Christianity and their beliefs overlap with a lot of other Restorationist Christian movements even if those beliefs don't overlap with what some call "mainstream" Christianity (i.e. Nicene Christianity).
Thanks for adding the mormons! As a former mormon, I think its an awesome addition!
@scott109 in what way do you mean that they are polytheistic? i can't speak for other groups calling themselves mormons, but the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, at least, is Christain, and does not worshop more then one god. we do belive in other heavenly beings, but we do not worshop them, they are gods family, so to speak. im feeling under the weather now, so i might not make a lot of sence, but i would be intrested in discussing it with anyone who cares to.
