Valkyria Chronicles is an SRPG, with full 3d freedom on map, as well as certain real-time elements.

To prevent either side from moving units through a formation, most units will intercept any enemy unit that is trying to move near it while the enemy unit is moving.

Combined with manual aiming and risk taking (example: do you risk missing a headshot that would eliminate the enemy unit in one turn, or go for the body that is guaranteed in 2 turns) it makes for an incredibly well balanced tactical game.

The characters and plot are quite well written too, making for an interesting background for an alternate WWII setting.
