Gameplay experience
The controls are very easy to use, with decent hotkeys and navigation. The game isn’t difficult at all, so I would say it’s very well balanced. Sims 4 does keep me moderately interested in the game and isn’t very excited when you play for the long run.

In-game choices does not feel that meaningful, where I feel whatever decision you do, basically doesn’t have consequences or either good or bad rewards. However you play, you still could acquire the same skills, or even apply for the same job regardless of what you do.

I can’t say that doing progress or milestones in the game gives players any rewards. So, I feel unsatisfied regarding this. I.e., making your way through life in the game doesn’t bring that much joy. I don’t feel like aging up in-game gives me satisfaction.

Presentation & Immersion
The game itself doesn’t quite have a story, so you basically have to create one of your own. Even by doing so, it doesn’t feel that much interesting because it doesn’t really matter. For time to time, you often feel very immersive into the game. If you follow and play with a few sims at a time, you feel immersed into their life and actions.

Sims 4 is design very well. The visual art and style of the game is very appealing, but not much have changed since the previous game Sims 3. The same goes for the sound and music, this is also very engaging, but still a lot like its previous title.

The HUD is very user-friendly and easy to use.

Design & Technical Aspects
I wouldn’t say that the game is design more than average mechanical wise. Because sometimes the game feels just more less natural and unrealistic. Sims 4 does have a lot of content, but many of these looks weird in my opinion, and there is lack of content in different areas in the game. I.e., the curtains just to mention. There are even lots of different DLC’s with even more content, which is also very expensive.

The AI in this game is poor in my opinion. You cannot rely on the “autonomy” function in the game settings. Sometimes a lot of actions just feel unnatural and sometimes I just feel the AI’s just do whatever stupid things they want to do without the influence of household members. “Why would the mother read a book and turn on the music while the baby is asleep?” These kinds of stuff happen all the time and is very annoying.

Game settings does give certain ways of adjusting the game and graphics. Still, I feel there are some settings missing from the previous titles. I.e., the level of autonomy. Here you could choose between “off” or “full”. And I do remember there were different options in Sims 3.

Since release I’ve been experiencing technical issues and glitches. I.e., for a year ago, there was an insult bug which made people insult each other all the time. The bug existed for a long time and made interactions with other sims impossible. It obviously made me quit for a certain time.

The most recent bugs I’ve encountered is tings like “get leftovers”. Sims gets a new plate out of the fridge again and again without eating them. Causing plates with food being placed around every space of the kitchen etc.

If you get a newborn, be prepared to have issues interacting with them. Because I’ve had A LOT. Many tasks in “the queue” got stuck and couldn’t be cancelled. Which made me must restart and quit the game several times. While the baby cries og floats in the air just by itself. You can’t do nothing because it would not make you interact. Every day in a sim’s world, this happens. You can’t go one day without experiencing small to moderate bugs.

Final Considerations
I’m not satisfied with the game. The bugs, content, and game overall just fell more less real and stiffer than its previous title. You can’t even own a car, you can’t even see the town you live in properly, career options are more less available than ever. The experience feels more limited than it should be. A game like this could bring out so much more. And for a game to be 7 years old, I find it hard to be that many bugs and issues which seems too basic to even exist.

The replay value is low, because if feels very monotonous and repetitive with every household you play. It’s kind of straightforward going from A to B. Even though it issues, I still feel the game gives a good value for its price because of it being free to play.

If you’re looking for a game to play by growing a household with an expecation to play in the long run, I would recommend you not play this game.
