Personal Rating: 6/10

Alien Splatter Redux is a fun little Contra-inspired shoot-em-up. It boasts both pleasant NES-like graphics, as well as a suitable soundtrack to bolster it further. However though, when you dig a little deeper, you find things aren't as they seem. Here are a few pros and cons I picked up while playing through the game.

+ Awesome NES-like graphics
+ Good music and SFX
+ Tight controls make platforming fun and enjoyable.
+ Enjoyable weapon powerups

- Simplistic level design makes for boring and tedius play.
- Weapon power-ups both overwrite each other, and deplete in ammo reverting you back to your default weapon.
- Some environmental terrain mechanics simply don't make sense, such as running water pushing you away from a waterfull that'd normally suck you closer to it...

Overall, it's a simple game that pays homage to games like Contra; however, it is a dollar for a reason. Know this and expect shortcomings when you play.
